Good news!! Moved my
room to the end of the building, so now I do not hear the kitchen noise. There is noise from the children behind the
building, but at least they go to bed early.
Life is humming along.
This trip is definitely not as exciting as the Nepal trips, but I really
feel that I am making a difference. I
just do not know how they will run, when they do not have a volunteer here to
help.
I spent the afternoon working on the books for the
shop. Good news is the 2011 books are in
order. That means the mistake is in
2012. That is the job for next
week. I sure wish I had studied
accounting. I know it from running my
business… in fact I even know QuickBooks, but there are a lot of accounting
questions and I do not have anyone to ask.
Any one out there that can help with some free time, let me know.
We had some American families in the shop and they were
upset that the order was mixed up… actually the family from Michigan was fine
but the family from Montana was not. I
need to work with the staff on taking orders and how to respond to unhappy
customers. Although I appreciated their
input, I think the parents could have made their kids pick up all the toys (we
have a kids corner) they took out and not waste a dozen straws that were thrown
on the floor. I decided not to mention
it to them, given they were already upset with the mixed up order. I thought people from Montana were more
open!!!!! (I put this comment in for my husband).
Other than French fries and ice cream, the food in Rwanda is
not very good. I am trying not to make
these two things my daily diet. The shop
has a healthy salad, although the dressing is vinegar and mayonnaise. It will be interesting to see if I lose or
gain weight.
I am hoping to go to the genocide museum today. I will try and go around 2pm today. It rained last night so this morning is
beautiful. I get to sit on my patio in
the morning and have my coffee and listen to the birds. I can actually hear them in this room…. No
kitchen noise.
Well not much exciting news.
Have a great day!! Paula
