Bookkeeping 101

It was a frustrating day yesterday.  I thought that once I had all the books for 2011 and 2012 reconciled, 2013 would be very easy.  No….  We are now very off in our cash and I will spend the day trying to figure out how we could be so off in just two months.  As we all know, I have little patience.

We had a great day at the store; we had over 35 customers and some big orders.  Many say they heard about us from other ex-pats or in the news in their country.  So the word is spreading and hopefully with it more business.

The pizza special was a success, so now we are going to try cupcakes.  I know how popular cupcakes are in the states, so hopefully they will catch on in Rwanda.  The birthday cake business is picking up and I found some new designs on the Internet for them to try.  They are simple but really pretty.  I think we will put together a menu of cake options so we can make additional money.

We have our meeting today and we are prepared with an Agenda.  I am very concerned how things will run without someone there to manage.  I will probably continue to work with Louise from the states every month to balance the books.

I have not started the English classes yet.  I really think they need them, but everyone is so busy during the day and I can not ask them to come in on their day off.  I really think I need to take a course on how to teach English.  The problem is that most volunteer teaching is for 6 months minimum.  Not sure my husband or family would like that or if I would like being away that long.

Off to work, so I hope everyone has a great evening. Paula
